I had a look at on of these on thursday. i dont know anything about them but i was told by the guy at the shop that they are made for MX (durr) so they dont have skid plates under them and they have 18s on the back and 20s on the from so there nice and low. the only thing that concerend me was i would have a alloy skid plate on the bottom to protect the engine . and he also said that Can am are working close with moto works so if you want upgrades to use moto works gear .. but as i said this is only what the guy has told me so if its not correct dont shot me Very Happy

My mate has one and it "profanity removed" hammers, iv got a 700 raptor, with a high flow filter, intake, pipe and power commander ecu and we are dead even in a drag race every time, it's really 'really' responsive on the throttle, feels good with the standard suspension and stable through slides and what not and heck is it light and strong too, he had a head on with a 350 raptor and bent his front bar and put a hole in his radiator, and turned the raptor inside out, bent a arms, dented rims, twisted frame etc, I'm no pro but I like these bikes despite being a die hard yamaha fan, just my opinion though.

Clarkie, check out some features like front end stub axle geometry, ball joint locations and angles.
Hollow rear axle, light and strong.

There is a lot of cool technology in there that really works.

Don't listen to anyone for a start...
Ride one first, and then ask why it feels like it does Smile

The DS450X MX is the motocosser
The DS450X XC is the cross country version (quite different set up).

Been reading up heaps on them, would love to ride on but there abit scarce around here, I think you guys are the closest (400km away). Am looking at a motorcross version due to width, can change tyres and gearing cheaper than Arms and Axles, theres also not much tight stuff in the trees here, Thanks for the input so far.

Clarkie, I ride a DS450x mx and I it is exceptional! I bought it just over a year ago, and I was open to buy any bike I wanted, but this bike is by far the best for the money you pay! All you need to do is cut the pink wire, put an exhaust on and take the air box lid off and you have a great moto-x quad. The standard shocks work great (thats all I have) and if you get them revalved and the rear re-sprung they are outstanding!

But like it has been said, if you can, ride one, do some research, and you will see they are a great bike. I have never had any problems with mine, and if you want to see what the bike is like, check out my thumbpump page

www.joshdick.thumbpump.com

Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

Cheers

Josh

yeh heaps do you want me to list them here? No problems

I bet you $100 that Can am won't do the same with there 450.

My Polaris Quad has Issues that I deal with because good people told me before it happens instead of hiding it and costing the poor sole thousands.

If you own a outlaw and watch for this stuff ...fix it before happens

1 Never ever over fill the oil in the engine!!!!!!!! I could write a page on that.
2. The stock Air filter on the Straight axle is the worst ever disigned on a quad ever ...
3 On the IRS the bolts fall out of the rear spocket even with the keepers as I found out at Condo.
4 on MY model 08 the seat comes off . Just down right pisses you off
5 the plastics crack on the 08 .. I now know how to plastic weld
6 On my model 08 the side fenders rub holes in the radiator

All of these are preventable and are common knowledge to polaris owners

I hate people having to spend money on their quads that could have been preventable. Just common sense instead of "never had any problems with mine" DURH

Every bike has minor issues. And there are plenty of us willing to point clarkie in the right directions to fix these minor issues on the can am.

I am not going to make a fool of myself on a public forum by stooping to your level and arguing on a public forum Husky. But it is fantastic work that you judge EVERYBODY, even if you dont know them at all.

As I have said above (if you bothered to ready any posts about the can am, which you probably didnt because you are so negative) I have said to Clarkie if he wants more info to PM me, that way i can go into a bit more detail about the little things.

BTW, way to kill yet another thread Husky, what is that on your thread kill counter now, 1000, 1001 . . . . . ????

Mate I'm good ... Clarkie is a good friend and if you read the post he asked for Feedback on this quad.

I Gave Feed back .... Unbiased feedback ... then I was challenged for problems on my outlaw ( which I have already help 2 people about the radiator hole problem) which any respected quad owner would say.

And I haven't killed this thread because I'm sure everybody with a Can am 450 is waiting to see what problems they have or going to have. Which they would thankyou muchly if you saved them $$$$ in repair bills.

Your call mate .. Nothing personal ..

I reckon I caught a barra lol

When I say I have had no dramas, that is an honest explanation. But good thing there are people like you on this forum husky, other wise we would all be doomed.

Clarkie, things you should know about the can am:

- try and buy an 09 or newer. As with any first year product they always have a few more issues.
- if you get an 09 mx, you may eventually break the heel guards if you push the bike too far. The quad cross tyres don't help this as they are not true 18 inch tyres so running a slightly larger tyre like the sx does help.
- if you read anything from the states they all say they have overheating problems. I have not found this a problem but I have done some things to make it less of a problem (read my thumbpump page).
- if you buy an 09 and are goig to race, get hold of the 10 models grill. As the radiator is positioned at the front of the bike they can get clogged and set the limp home mode off, especially in sandy conditions. My new grill which I got from can am should be here next week. But toucan also get them from BCS performance in the states.

Honestly. These are the only small common issues I can think of. And they aren't really issues. No holes in radiators, no cracked fenders. But every brand will have pushing for and against.

I think Husky raises a point - In the near future ill be in the market for a new quad, the ds450xmx was up there on the list.

I understand that not every quad is perfect, but if you know what the issues are with the quad you can do something about them before they become big $$$ and you regret buying that particular brand.

If that happens firstly you never buy that brand again and probably tell everyone you know that they are crap and to stay away from them.

It makes me think twice about what to spend my hard earned on. If there are issues with the ds450xmx why won't the people who know about them tell the general public about them? Isn't that this forum is (should be) about?

Once the issues are out, people like myself know what they are getting themselves into. A big issue for me might not be a big issue for someone else and vice versa. But at least you know before you start.

Hell, the people who know about any problems with the machine probably have already found a fix to it and if they care to share that info it would make the job of getting back out riding a whole lot faster/easier/cheaper/less frustrating and maybe even safer!

IMO if I was after a new MX type quad i would be out of the......

DS450XMX
KTM450SX (not the 505)
LTR450

As stated above, all new quads have some sort of issue although usually small.

I have found that most issues are overstated by people with an axe to grind - Rolls eyes it's easy to workout who they are.

I have experience with the LTR and would lean that way but have no issues with the other 2 quads.

Thanks for all the input Guys, some helpfull and some more to get a bite out of others. As I know ALL quads have faults and am looking to see what people have learnt on the Can am so far as theres none here to ask unlike the LTR which they nearly all are here. Will be using it for flat track and trail riding not motorcross ( jump like a nanna). Thanks Clarkie

Trouble for good people like yourself OutlawBanshee is that people like Huskygoat always poison these sort of forums so badly that the real converations can not be aired publically.

Husky is just about the only reason that so many credible people do not comment on these forums (especially Can-Am people Smile )
Because he acts the way he does, people like me simply have to stay away.
I'm not saying that to big note myself and recognise that there are hundreds of other industry people with an abundence of info that would well and truely trump anything i might have to offer.
The point is we don't hear from any of them bcause of forum tossers who will always try to take them down.
In short all these great people would love to help, but just can't afford the risk.
Most top industry people will always advise "just stay away fom forums"
It's a real pitty that the poisoning industry minority exist, because forums like thse would otherwise be a fantastic tool for sharing way more information and gowig the sport in general.

Dickie sounds like he is spot on the money in relation to the Can-Am question.
Of course if anyone want's my trivial opinion on Can-Am, i am always available.
I bit my tounge initially, knowing that some tosser would surely have a crack.
Good on Dickie or having a go, but what do you know, he copped a tosser attack.
Everyone sees this, and they all say to themselves "yeah i'm sure glad i did not air my opinion".

Any other brand, and i'm happy to recommend someone else to help you, it's just that i am not an expert on many other models.
I help a lot of 'real people' and I'm well known to go into detail.
Those that know me would usually laugh and say yeah too much detail.
So maybe give Dickie a go instead laughing

Back to Clarkie... happy to help you any way i can Smile
Otherwise no further comment on this topic, 'on this foum'
Having said that, anyone in the gutless minority who would like to continue playing 'forum tough guy'... I would absolutely LOVE to talk to you face to face and the soonest available opportunity Smile please Smile
