ive noticed the different colours between my carby slide, one is completely black, other is partially black. does anyone know by this would occur?
Also, i have fmf powercore 2 mufflers, the left hand side seems to be leaking fuel/oil and covered in dirt. this may relate to the above carby problem. any help, suggestions? the sticker also has also melted for some reason on the same muffler.

the black coating is wearing off your throttle slides, thats all, happens to all good middle aged banshees. if you start having problems with your throttle sticking then you could pull them out and polish them.
it does however look like dirt is making it past your air filter, what kind are you using?
with your silencer problem, I would say that it has been a long time since you have replaced the muffler packing (if ever) and that it is clogged with soot and oil, which is making the mess and also "boiling" in there after a long time, making the sticker bubble up.
what jetting do you have in the quad?
what oil are you using and what ratio? _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

| If i were you i would'nt be worried about the coating wearing of the slides, i'd be worried about all that dirt wearing the crap out of the piston and bore, are you running a filter? If you are get rid of it quick smart and get a new dual stage foam filter. And i'd be pullin her down to check for damage, by the look of the pics i'd bet you your gonna find some. |

Its normal don't worry about it, it's a part of maintenance just make sure to run your quad with a clean filter always. _________________ "Invest with atv parts that are reliable and inexpensive." |

im using a K&N with the cover. ive just used the k&n recharge spray so hopely nothing will get passed the filter.i think it only sucked the dirt in last time i took it out, it was really dry and dusty.
where in sydney can i get the muffler repacked?
the jets are either 270 or 280.
i used motul oil with 40:1 ratio. |

show us an over picture of your airbox with the filter out, i would like to see what filter flange you are using.
are you running the air box lid?
mate you can just buy muffler packing from most bike shops, take the mufflers apart and do it yourself. there should be instructions on the packet you get the packing in. _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

cool, you should be sweet, although just check the seal between the flange and the airbox. there should be an o-ring there, but because the plastic airbox isnt the flattest surface in the world, it may need to still be sealed up with silicone..
if you are keeping your filter clean and oiled (which it looks like you are) then that is the only place dirt can enter, unless there is a tear or rip in the boots that connect the carbs to the air box.
having said all that, if it all checks out, then your k&n isnt doing its job, which is understandable as it looks like you ride in extremely dusty conditions. if that is the case, then you are probably better off with a two stage foam filter like uni filter or something. _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

| By the look of the pics i'd say its entering before the boots, check that you have the o ring between the air box and flange, also make sure there is a good seal between the filter and flange, there should'nt be any leaks between filter and carbs, imo k+n are only good for tar or snow where you don't get dust, i used to run one until i found a few small particals of dust getting through, so it went in the bin. I now run a dual stage foam and nothing gets through, they are just as easy to maintain, 9 out of 10 times you only have to clean the outer filter anyway, so just take your time and check thoughly were its comming from. Another trick i use is chux wipes between the air box and lid (top cut out of lid) and just coat it with a bit of k+n oil, just replace it between races , easy and cheep its another pre filter which doesen't affect performance. |

i think i had a lose rubber boot on the airbox side. the o ring has been doing its job as you can see in the picture. the dust has settled on top of the o ring. i might put silicone on the boots and airbox to give it a good seal.
i also checked the jets and there 280. past the carby slide seems to be clean, there was no dust on the other side the the carby to the reeds and barrel.
i think the carbs need a good tune.
