This has come up a few times now. So I'll put up the links with a little how I did it. Maybe our moderators can MAKE IT A STICKY? Accrate as of 16/10/2010.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
CONDITIONAL REGO
................................
From the State GOVT:
http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Registration/Conditional_registration/
AS well as:
http://www.maic.qld.gov.au/ctp-premium/about-cond-reg.shtml
AND this:
http://www.maic.qld.gov.au/ctp-premium/conditional-registration.shtml
..........................................
The link to the DOT form:
http://www.support.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/formsdat.nsf/qtforms/QF3815
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
WHERE TO RIDE
From QLD Forestry:
http://www.fpq.qld.gov.au/asp/index.asp?sid=5&page=recreation
AND
From National Parks
http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/ecoaccess/parks_and_forest_management/recreational_uses/conditional_registration_of_vehicles_on_qpws_managed_areas.html
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Read all the stuff, find the links and PDF's you need to satisfy yourself. You will have to sign a declaration to say that you own your quad, buggy, bike or trike and that it complies. Mine did.
.............................................................................
HOW IT WORKS FOR ME
Forestry is a go. National Parks are a NoGO.
There is exceptions. Read the stuff! If a organised group wanted to go to Frazer Island, it could be done..........A dis-organised bunch of friends riding on a day does not need a permit in the forests. I have never had a problem with those authorities in over 20 years in QLD.
........................................
HOW WE GOT THE CONDITIONAL REGO
I rang up a CTP supplier. They gave me policy in GROUP 19. Paid over the phone and they emailed me my letter of being insured. This, I printed out and went to the rego office.
I filled out my form, ( when they found it for me behind the counter ), provided my letter of CTP and $83.85.
This got me a lttle number plate, a piece of paper and a rego sticker in the mail.
On our piece of paper, the conditions of use are; LO3, LO6A and LO7.

Hi Dino,
checked out all the info and it all seems pretty good.
In the codes of qld transport; LO3 permitted areas of operations [h] forest reserve.
The only thing that is sketchy is "that you must have permission from the owner of the road ".
So forestry plantations are ok, not state forests [ anything controlled by QPWS].
Might have to look into organising a group trip thru QQRA up to Double Island /Rainbow Beach and back. The Fraser Island trip would be sensational .
thanks scotty _________________ 06 700 raptor 50th anniversary |

Hi Scottydig. Yeah, you nailed it. On all counts.
.................................................................
The permission thing.
Where the forestry guys have a little sign at the track entrances, that is your permission OR denial. I'll put up some pictures of the signs. Too wet to work, so we'll probably get some tomorrow.
.................................................................
Forestry controlled is a goer while National Parks controlled is not. Best rule of thumb is "The pines are fine."
.................................................................
A LOT of people are keen on "organised runs" to those places. I reckon win-win situation for all parties. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Between a few of us, a pretty fair database exists.
.......................................................................
Beerburrum, Glasshouse, Jimna, Imbil, Kenilworth, Gympie, Tin Can Bay, Kilcoy, Esk, Toowoomba, Bundaberg are just a few.
Oops. Just found this link. It may help

And this certainly will.

there's a pamphlet that I picked up at the Enoggera Yamaha dealer called "Dirt Biking Where to ride in the Greater Brisbane Area". It covers all the areas in SEQ that it's legal to ride conditionally registered bikes and quads. _________________ TGB 550 Blade with custom paint work

I went on an organised ride in 2006 with Northcoast Jetskis (they used to be a Polaris dealer) that went from Tewantin to Rainbow then back via Old Cooloola Way. It was one of the best rides I have been on! I believe QPWS shut them down but dont quote me. Maybe someone should call them and ask how they did it? _________________ 2012 Polaris RZR XP Turbo

Hi guys,
Would I be after a class 19 or 20 rego for my quad. ?
There seemed to be a big price difference between the two.
Thanks for posting the above info, I've just joined this forum resently and have seen you all talking about rego and would love to go riding in the forests.
Also, do I need a special licence to ride in these places and/or raceing, as I already have a bike licence ?
Thanks.
Sean. |

I believe that class 19 is the only option (well that was the only option suncorp offered me) and you need "a" license (bike. car, truck, etc), that's why kids can't ride in the forest. Forest rides are really fun. _________________ TGB 550 Blade with custom paint work

Mate, if your bikes registered, your on board. Pm me if you want a ride up here, in the pines. You will been shown places to do family stuff. And it'll go from there. Just a bit damp for a week or so. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Thanks for that, the class 20 was a lot cheaper, I'll have to take what ever they want to give me.
I don't know if my poor little bike can keep up with some of you guys.
You all seem to spend a lot of money and have a lot of extras. |

Dino,
I am not sure if you are aware but Conditionally Registered Vehicles are not permitted in Qld Forestry areas, only Road Registered Vehicles. I spoke to them and they were quite specific about this, they stated that Forestry roads are governed by the same laws as normal roads.
You are welcome to clarify this by calling them on 07 5438 6637.

Hey mate,
I have a pamphlet which says inside "where to ride - Forest reserves and State forests" It goes on to list 5 areas between Caboolture and just North of Caloundra that conditionally registered bikes can ride. It available at the Enoggera Yamaha dealer and is produced for Forestry Qld and in conjunction with the Redcliffe shire council and SEQ catchments. Hope this helps. _________________ TGB 550 Blade with custom paint work

If this someone has a name, please PM it to me. Meanwhile their website, signage and field staff state what's already above.
..................................................................
Queensland Police Traffic Branch have a letter coming to me. That letter I'll publish up here.
I'm seeking the same from The Forestry Commission, or whatever they call themselves today, this I'll also publish up here.
..................................................................
At the end of the day, anyone who runs foul of whatever authorities, will be deemed somewhat better off registered than someone who is not. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Is the price of ctp really $178.00 or am i been ripped. I take it that the $ 83.00 for the Rego is on top of that?
For $260.00 I better not be barking up the wrong tree!!!!! _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

UPDATE.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Mt Mee is out, it's all QPWS controlled. Spoke to the head ranger in person. It's all by the book up there now. And there is a lot of gates, BIG gates. Still a great day visit for the family. Probably have to watch out for convoys of Daewoo Matiz instead of 4wd's, in the future.
..........................................................................
As the QPWS is now administering the FPQ, I am concerned that in the long term, the whole off-road scene is going to become a very sanitised affair. I'm not just talking quads ( both double diff's and MX ), I'm also referring to trail-bikes, buggies and 4wd's.
I'm trying to set up a meeting with the current king-pins. The discussion I had with FPQ today, fell in a big hole when they were shown the rules, publications and web-sites.
Quote: "I think you need to speak to some one higher up about this." So, someone higher up can explain it all, in writing. This is a BIG can of worms. Like many legislations, the interpretation is a somewhat ambigous.
..........................................................................
At this point in time, I've 5 seperate Govt. Depts involved. And that is more than 5 different agendas. There is certainly other fingers in this pie than that. Crikey, all I wanted to do was ride legally!
.........................................................................
I'm also enlisting some background advice of a few businesses who've travelled down this road before. They do tours. All their reports are not in, but the trend is that the govt has made it more difficult.
.........................................................................
The publications that the Jackal has mentioned are endorsed as he stated.
S.E.Q. Catchments, the former Redcliffe City Council and the Dept of Sport and Recreation. They are easily understood. They certainly encourage registration, licensing and where to ride. " ...in a leisurely manner"
........................................................................
What I do know is that 6 months ago, I obtained informed and correct advice. I've acted on that. And I stand by it.
I also know that the off-road scene is a bigger industry than many others in this state and country. It is much bigger than the various gooses ( both golden and stupid ) realise.
If you added up all the 4wd's, trail bikes, quads, buggies and then the accessories, you'd need a big calculator............. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I am not trying to be difficult, but can anyone accurately tell me the difference in the fine I will receive if caught with out Rego versus the fine I will receive even though I have rego. The reason I ask is that as everyone can see, there is no clear defining line.
Should I not just put the $250 that I am paying for CTP and Rego towards my fine, or should I add my fine to the $250 that I already have paid believing it would not allow me to be fined.
In WA for almost three years, we had a battle with the authorities regarding B class rego for quads. It took the Australasian Safari to come to WA for the authorities to actually get there act together and endorse this legislation. Maybe we should try and get the Safari to come to Queensland and then our problems will be solved. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Traffic branch of Queensland Police have advised me that this sort of offence is tied to the "anti-hoon" legislation. If you get pulled up riding/driving unregistered/uninsured, you get a summons to visit the judge.
The judges have their own range of penalties that they can impose. I don't know what they are. But I would suggest that they would start at what it should have cost you and range up to a lot more. Just visiting the judge attracts court fees, as well as at least a day off work.
Under the anti-hoon legislation, what you got caught riding/driving stays in your possesion the 1st time. After that, the toy your playing with is taken off you. it's 48 hours, something else, then 3 months with a "goneski" forever if your a total idiot.
Please note that this could be your mates bike your riding. If' it's not reg/insured, your gone. If you've been before, it's gone.
On the spot fines issued by QPWS, local councils and FPQ START at $200.00.
I've never had a problem, I couldn't be that lucky for 30+ years of having fun. Mind you though, the times are changing.......
*****************************************************
Maybe the authorities want us to off-road on-line. I don't know.
This info is up here so people can make up there own minds.
I believe that you are better off with the rego and insurance that goes with it. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.
