| Well now that Mrs Gaiter has laid down the rules which are true. Been there done that. Locky did ride 06 nats at "12" both classes, but only rode the 90cc class in 07. Remember this kid ozquad is 12, so he can ride both classes, but hopefully he can ride better than he can write. He must be riding four strokes after his comment of 2 strokes. My money will be on Boz on his 2 stroke. |

The classes for Nationals for juniors should match the GCR's with provisions for combining classes ie the 2 classes of standards and adding "More than 4 years age difference maybe permitted" to obtain enough riders to constitute a class (which is 10 at National level)in the reference to standards as theres 2 age divisions.
as there was like 14 riders?? 90cc at tri states Murray Bridge, sure theres going to be a couple of grids at this years nats, wont that be something to see !
At State level in WA the WAMX Committe wrote the sup regs to what would fit in with the runnings of the state round series for juniors this year.
ie all 90cc on one grid, seperated in modified and standards by age scored separately, not perfect, but was better than 1 race day 3 races for a title. Next year it all may change. _________________ www.waquadmx.com |

Have we got that in writting? and inthe book?

Page 110 definitely does say that a 12 year old can enter in two different casses, and ofers no further distinction in the tabled form.
Page 102, however, adds that...
"A rider may move to the next higher age class when they become eligable by reason of celebrating a birthday, but once the rider moves to that higher age class, they may not move back to the lower age class,"
Regardless of which school anyone does or does not go to, the MOMs clearly say pick one class.
The minute you hand in a entry form for the 200 -300 class the MOMs say you can't race a 90 -110.
Black and white in the MOMS.
So, by all means pick either class, you are entitled to do so.
If you try both classes and your opposition point that out by way of an official protest on the day, it can't be argued, there is no other possible interpretation of 12.16.0.1 because the rule is very clear.
And after this discussion, I am sure someone will have a rule book on the day with the relevent sections highlighted.
But like Husky asked, seeing your signed letter will be interesting. _________________ Can-Am X Team

Because 7 and 8's are young ones just starting out, is it fair to put a 10yr old with 7-8yrs olds, sorry not within my reasoning, but if you have a problem with it suggest you put pen to paper, not fingers to keyboards,
I guess for the past 3-4yrs our riders have devloped well in WA, so obviously somethings been done right. |

Thats right HIGHER AGE CLASS all goes on age, when they turn 13 not 12 - so from the age of 12 until 12 and 364 days (except for leap year) then the choice they make at 13 is what they are in till the 31st of December that year onwards until they turn senior, thank god.
This rule is for those that are ready to go up will go up and those that are not ready they will stay down for that year, progression of riders, thats what its all about. This option also applies to two wheelers being able to ride 85's or 125's/250's or both classes - we are MX remember. |

Can we get an official answer from MA so we all know well before the Nats?

If you read the rules............. How do you get that definition without a expalnation on that rule. You must have it old55? Its nearly be a 2 page essay. That doesn't change moving to a older class and going back. just seems unworkable.
I just see irate parents jumping up down sideways with rule books guns and all that stuff . I Think I stay away from the nationals .
Once this is sorted I will write a letter to all our members in NT clarifing this. _________________ Truth and Honor and Trust ... never under estimate Them. |

Okay - have just cornered and clipped my son around the ear for his discussion board escapades and I'll try and clear this up.
I asked this question to MA, and I received advice back from the Junior Development Commissioner as confirmed by the MX Commissioner.
The advice was that Under GCR 13.2.9 for Motocross a 12 yr old is eligible to ride both classes for this year only, and yes he can race in both classes at the Australian Nationals. This is due to the age overlap in the 2 classes (90cc-110cc and 200cc-300cc).
Please don't shoot the messenger - seek your own advice if you believe this is incorrect.

I guess for the past 3-4yrs our riders have devloped well in WA, so obviously somethings been done right. |
I thought the GCRs in quad jnr 90cc age and class were very clear Sections 22.6.1 & 22.6.5.3 in the 09 rule book read 7 to under 10 & 9 to under 13 can ride in standard classes. So can or why would you change the SRs to suit only 7 & 8 yrs for your state title series? Are the standard 7 & 8 yr kids riding separately or with the other older (9-U13) 90cc group? If they’re riding together then they’re not being protected from the bigger kids or faster modified bikes or are they? By changing the true MA classes aren’t you limiting the opportunity for slightly older kids on standard bikes to have a chance at a state title? Or do you have enough 7 & 8yr kids to make-up a class?
If my kid was under 10 and on a standard bike and you told me they couldn’t compete in a standard class because he wasn’t 7-8yrs I wouldn’t be too pleased of this change of rules at a state title – I’d be running to the rule book – especially if I knew my kid had a chance of getting a podium for the standard class (wouldn’t you?).
I guess if you got all the standards over 8years of age to agree to race as a modified (I don’t know why they would, I wouldn’t) then this could work, though you would still be penalizing all the 9 to under 13s who are racing on standards they’re never going to catch the modified bikes so what’s in it for them?
If you want to build the sport you need to keep it fair, interesting and motivating – but from where I’m sitting (maybe I’m wrong) limiting and changing the ages at a state title isn’t a positive way to go about it.
I concede WA does have a lot of very talented young riders, but I think we can agree this is attributable to their natural ability – not due to age class limitations. |
