This is devastating news for our quad community as he was to young to go. Ed had won several finke's and was the first quad rider to complete the Australian Safari. He came second in his class at TP300 last year despite prologuing poorly and having to fight to the front on both days of the race. Ed was also ready to run in Finke and Thumb Pump again this year. Ed had beautiful children (whose grandparents are Wayne and Wendy from RACE motorcycles in Alice Springs). A great loss to us all.

Bashed to death with an iron bar
April 5th, 2009
A TERRITORY man was bashed to death with an iron bar after being involved in a vicious fight on Friday night.
Edward Charles Hargrave, 37, (pictured) collapsed after he was hit on the head with the iron pole.
He died on his way to hospital.
The Alice-Springs man was believed to have been involved in a fight between two groups of men in Gap Rd, in Gillen, about 11pm.
The brawl escalated as it moved only metres from the lawns of the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
One group of four men is believed to have fled the scene, while Hargrave and two other men chased them about 2km past the Alice Springs Hospital on to Bloomfield St.
The first group allegedly escaped into the Keith Lawrie Flats complex.
Two of the men - one holding an iron pole - then returned.
Police officer in charge of regional investigations Detective Senior Sergeant Lauren Hill said witnesses had reported the fight continued and Hargrave was hit with the iron pole and later died.
But she said no arrests had been made as yet.
"We have no offenders in custody at this stage," she said.
"We're seeking a lot more clarification as to exactly what happened and the movements of the witnesses and the movements of everybody else involved."
Police attended the scene after several witnesses reported the fight.
Det-Sen-Sgt Hill said police had done an extensive "door-knock" to gain more information.
"A large number of witnesses who live in the area and around the area (have been questioned)," she said. "And people who were involved in the fracas - so approximately five of those. We're still looking for others."
The reasons for the fight are yet to be determined. An autopsy will be conducted today to find the cause of the man's death.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward or call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Suspicious death ... Edward Hargrave (Northern Territory Police)
Audio: Stabbing death in Alice Springs (ABC News) Map: Alice Springs 0870
Police have arrested three young men following the stabbing death of father-of-three Edward Hargrave in Alice Springs at the weekend.
It was initially believed Mr Hargrave had been hit on the head with an iron bar during a fight with a group of men outside the Memorial Club on Friday night.
Police now believe the 37-year-old boilermaker died as a result of a stab wound to his upper chest.
Former workmate and friend Rick Shelton says Mr Hargrave was a good bloke.
"Obviously [it is] a shock," he said.
"Whether it's really set in or not I don't know but the family seem to be OK, I suppose.
"What do you call OK? What do you tell your kids?"
Alice Springs Town Council Mayor, Damien Ryan, says Mr Hargrave was well-known in motor racing circles.
"He would know a lot of people," Mr Ryan said.
"Being involved in sport in Central Australia, you come across and touch a lot of people's lives so he'd be a loss to a lot of people."
The three men, aged 21, 22 and 25, will be interviewed by police today.
Police are urging any witnesses to the incident to contact them.
Alice Springs man Ed Hargrave, a 37 year old father of three went out for a beer at the Memo club in town and never came home.
He was stabbed to death after an altercation near the Keith Lawrie Flats on the corner of Bloomfield Street and Musgrave Street on Friday night.
The incident took place after a fight which began outside the Memorial Club on Gap Road.
Mr Hargrave a welder in town was also well known as a rider in the Finke Desert Race quad section.
One of his close friends Rick Shelton said he still can't believe what has happened.
"Ed was a fabulous bloke, he had all the time in the world for you. He would drop tools to help you, what's what he was so well known in the community."
"He lived in town for around 15 years and was well known. He was a great dad with an old school style, he had a lovable family. His kids are really pleasant and happy go lucky.
Witnesses had told the police that Mr Hargrave had been hit to the head with an iron bar although an autopsy conducted yesterday revealed Mr Hargrave died as a result of a stab wound to the upper chest.
Three men aged 21, 22 and 25 have been arrested.
Mr Shelton said he had been in contact with the deceased's family.
"The familily is shocked whether it's set in or not I don't know , they seem to be ok I don't what ok means in this situation."
Police are asking any people with information to phone 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Alice Springs police have charged two men with murder over the death of a 37-year-old father-of-three on Friday night.
Edward Charles Hargrave died of a stab wound to the chest during a fight in Musgrave Street.
Three men were arrested on Sunday.
Two of the men, aged 25 and 22, have faced the Alice Springs Magistrates Court, charged with murder and aggravated assault.
They have been remanded in custody to face court again on May 19.
A third man, aged 21, has been released without charge.
Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the fight to contact them. _________________ Family is most important.... next is our quads |
