really depends on what application you have in mind darren if it's general riding probably a rekluse as they can be tuned to be a little bit of a slipper anyway.

for motard or real hard pack mx I'd go with a straight slipper maybe.

I like the way that the rekluse system works in the real soft stuff and for in the bush.

Well a real slipper clutch is a normally activated clutch which starts to disengage automatically on deceleration to prevent rear wheel lockups and lessen the engine braking effect from 4T engines.

A rekluse is a fully automatic centrifugal clutch that engages by itself as the engine revs rise. you can make a rekluse behave a little like a slipper by having the actuation point set high and it will start to disengage earlier on decel.

a mate has a rekluse in his 525 and loves it,
ive done a couple hrs riding on it and it worked and felt awesome.
basically impossible to stall your biike, as it disengages bellow a certain rpm say 1000rpm, so when you get to a gate you can leave your bike in gear and just jump off and open the gate and the bike just sits there idling, as soon as you rev it woosh off it goes as per normal.

I'm with Pete, and he had a Rekluse for ages.
The motard guys go for Slippers as they only work on decel and dont effect power delivery on the way up at all.
But for general riding, you'll kind of get more benefits out of the Rekluse and they are very adjustable.
Loosing your engine braking of a 4 stroke is wierd though... kinda like a 2 stroke with the idle set real high, it means a lot more rear brake work if you're pushing hard.

Hello Gentlemen,

I am in the market for a new clutch for my yfz450 and was thinking of going for a reklus system. Would this be suitable for mx or would I be better going for a complete GYTR set up with new basket and pressure plate?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

With a properly set up rekluse on a YFZ you can still have a manual override which makes it ideal for MX in that you get the best of both worlds, the auto engagement and then being able to fan the clutch (if you need to ) in and out of corners.

Thanks for the reply PeteW.

From the research that I have done and your comments I think that I will go ahead with the rekluse clutch. Apparently the latest clutch system that they have released is easier to adjust and also allows the use of the clutch in a normal manner.

Thanks again

They are available locally, try one of the ATV specialists like Quad Squad, LBM or HATV for one.

When any clutch completely lets go you wont have any gears.
Riden normally in any conditions a recluse will not be any worse than any other clutch.
If you slip the hell out of any clutch it's life will be drastically shortened.
But once a recluse is fully engaged (normal riding) it does not slip.
It only slips where you set it, which should be at lower revs, where you should not be spending a lot of time.
So yeah, there are bad examples...
Try taking off in sand in 4th gear and you'll kill a recluse, just like any other clutch.

like bullet said, when any clutch fails you won't be going anywhere.

I reckon it's less likely to fail than a normal clutch due to the consistency of the clutch slip on take off but if you treat it badly (like trying to take of in 4th on sand) then it's going to fry like any other.

Not True, the rekluse set up and adjusted right has more clamping pressure than a stock clutch and is awsome in the sand ,paticularly at hill climbs Smile The latest pro z is recommended as the older style Rekluse are temperamental and hard to get the clearances correct.I recommend using the heavier Nickle balls as they clamp better and the medium springs for engagement. If you ride in a gear above that's ok and preferred ,its when you ride two or three gears above and lug the engine... you will burn out clutches .I sold my race trx 450 er Honda with a Rekluse to a fella who only rides Dunes at Stocko and he loves It !
I sell them and set them up Smile
