My 05 YFZ cant hold constant revs. If you give the throttle a hit it revs out and goes back to idle as it should. If I go to 1/4 or half throttle and hold it, it gets up to revs then the engine shutsdown.

The carby is clean.
Spark plug is fine.
So we are all out of ideas.

It just started having this problem in the last race on Sunday and I am meant to be racing again this weekend. Hrm
Any help would be great.

Thanks Smile

check inlet manifold for leaks if it has a hairline split it will be good for a quick rev but being held at a certain rev it will build vacume and suck air and shut down depending the size of the split wen it goes to shut down dosnt it stunble a bit 1st if it does listen to it if its a lazy sounding its fuel if its a sharp stumble its electrical good luck

1 - try pulling the breather off the fuel cap while its running, fuel will trickle down OK when its not running but not enough if its under load.

2 - Check all the electrical connections, not likely to be the cause but worth a look, as noodles said maybe try a new battery (or a spare from another bike) also worth trying another Plug Cap/Coil pack as that can sometimes cause similar symptoms on the yams.

when you say it shuts down, does it stop completely or will it still idle?

does it rev clean all the way up or is it starting to break up before it gets there. It does sound mostly to me like a fueling problem ATM

Thanks everyone.
I think we got it sorted...
The T.O.R.S, if that is what it is called on the YFZ's was playing up.
Should have it sorted out. Smile

What do I have to do to disable this? Can I just unplug it or do I have to join wires or anything? Smile

Probably a bit late to help now but was just reading on YFZ Central site about riding with lights on on 04 and 05 model YFZs. Apparently on these models the stator overcharges the battery due to there being not enough resistance . The symptoms are the same as you described with the battery not able to supply enough voltage to the CDI due to the battery burning out. Riding with the lights on adds resistance and stops the overcharging. A resistor kit is also available but I don't know where you would find one in OZ. They also said there is a small bullet connector under the seat bracket that can come loose. Check it out on YFZ Central and do a search for headlights. I would post the link but don't know how. If it all turns out to be a load of s..t don't shoot me cos I'm only the messenger. Hope it helps and any other members know anything about this I would be keen to hear. Just had a look at an 05 service manual I have and if the T.O.R.S. was faulty the quad wouldn't run at all. Feel free to PM Me if you need to know more from the manual.
P.S. Mr Moderator if I have posted this in the wrong forum I plead not guilty. Ignorance made me do it.
