 |
|
Hi guys,
Finally bought a new toy. But I think I have a problem.
Not long ago I picked up my first Shee - a 2009 Banshee!
All was great and I have been having a ball over the last couple of days. Since I've picked it up I would have done less than 5 hours riding.
The problem is, is that it appears to have developed a bit of a rattle/noise towards the rear of the motor. Basically where the kickstart, gear lever is.
Symptoms are as follows:
- Noise appears to be coming from the kickstart/transmission/carby area.
- Noise only appears to occur in the lower revs. When I rev it up, I can't hear it. However when the revs come down, the bike seems to vibrate and this is when the sound is evident.
- When riding along and the bike is under load, I can't hear it. But when I slow down and revs drop, I can.
- Noise isn't transmission/speed related. Noise appears to be engine/revs related.
- Clutch in/clutch out..... doesn't matter. Noise is still there.
- The noise isn't there when the bike is cold. It is only there when up to operating temp!
- I've checked fluids and everything appears to be ok. (Just flushed the box with new Motul stuff to see if it made any difference....no deal).
- I've checked a lot of other things that could be rattling. Have used screwdriver to try and isolate it but haven't had much luck. I have read about the issues some guys have with the kickstarts, but it doesn't sound to be isolated in that area. It's very close though.
Since I've got it, I've run 40:1 because I was told to by the dealer. All in all bike still goes very very hard and rides fine. Just makes this weird "profanity removed" noise that I can't get rid of.
To sum things up... I have checked a fair bit of stuff and it doesn't appear to be internal. I have taken the left side of the motor off and have taken the dipstick out on the other side to try and isolate the sound but haven't actually found it. Really sounds to be in and around the carby area.
Anyway... I'm in SE QLD. Can anyone recommend anyone who I should go and see? Don't want monkeys working on my stuff. Would prefer to spend the $$ and get someone who really knows their "profanity removed" to look at it. I have already taken it to a dealer, but they weren't much help. They just told me all Banshee's rattle like hell and not to worry about it. Just after a second opinion.
The issue is, if I let it idle up and get to operating temp, the noise isn't there. I have to give it a few hard runs of 200-300m sprints to get the sound cranking. Once the bike is turned off and gets cold, the noise is gone. It's just very hard to demonstrate the problem at a dealer/workshop as I have to ride it to replicate the issue.
To fast track things I have taken a couple of videos so hopefully someone can shed some light!
This is a vid of the bike on the handbrake/rev limiter. The rattle is very noticable:

This second vid is when the motor is free revving. Noise goes away in the higher revs, but as revs drop, noise comes back:

Apologies for the long post. Just paranoid that if I keep riding my bike it will explode!
Cheers people. _________________ WTB Quad

You got this new?
Check both pipes are the same temperature at the front section after its been running for awhile.
If one is colder than the other, take off the exhaust from that side and thru the exhaust port, see if there is any damage to the piston .
It sounds like a big end bearing rattle or piston rattle. |

It sounds very similar to the noise you get when you ingage the kick start with the motor running (if you were to try and kick it over with it running). I would take it straight back to the dealer. _________________

As the other blokes have said take it back to the dealer it is a new bike yeah ? 2009 model.
When the dealer says all banshees rattle ask him to start another and show you. Dont let the dealer walk over you if you have to see the admin of this site and see if you can name and shame them if they do not help Good luck |
