One of my front brake callipers on my predator doesn't release fully I have cleaned the piston but it still sticks slightly. I was wondering if anyone had any advice how to stop them from sticking. Cheers _________________ Someone had to do it!! |

I don't have any evperience in particular with the Predator brakes but usually if everything is clean the pistons should release and retract properly.
A few thou of wheel bearing play or disc run out will help knock the pads back.
Out of interest, see if the side that does not stick has a bit more run out.
If your pads are worn wedge shaped they could self engage a bit too.
If the pads are still pretty good try just swapping them side to side.
So the taper goes the other way.
Unless anyone has specific advise... I hope that helps. _________________ Can-Am X Team

Pull your caliper off and disassemble. It could possibly be one of the pistons undersize and sticking. You will see excessive scoring if they are sticking. Check your brake lines as well as it could of copped a rock and it is blocked not releasing the pressure quick enough. _________________ Yamaha Raptor 700CC

It is a design fault with the Predator and has given many a Predator owner gray hairs. You have to remove the rods that the pads hang on and polish them up really well. The pad actually wears a groove into the rod and you find that the pad does not retreat into the relaxed position and just keeps scraping away on the disk. There is apparently a conversion that has been done using Honda parts and info regarding this can be found on the Predator Owners website. You can also fit a light spring between the two pads( on the rod ) which will force the pads apart, but you will have to find just the right spring, otherwise it could become to hard to pull front brakes. It is common practice to fit iether a Yamaha or Honda Master cylinder to the Predator as well _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Thanks Predatory for the advice, I'll polish up the rods and see if that helps. I,ll also see if I can find a suitable spring in the workshop, worst case scenario I might have to get new callipers. Will let u know how I get on. Cheers _________________ Someone had to do it!! |
