13k I thought - but 2nd hand is cheaper of course... but it's like your ktm - ready to go
not sure about the aftermarket parts for the 90ds but i know they are available for polaris 90's and 50's (we have a polaris 90, 50 and a 73cc cobra) I believe the after market performance parts are slowly coming available for the big canams so I would think eventually the little canams will get them too - once the demand is there. it's a catch 22 system. I would have thought the canam dealers you got yours from would be falling over themselves to find you a little one to demo...

Hi 6363.
Yeah there is heaps you can do to the little DS90X engines to get the power up.

Don't take a new one for a test ride and judge it by that only because they all come with the throttle stop screw restricted way back for safety.
They barely move at that setting.

It sounds like you have obviously found one of the CDI and exhaust power up combos.
Yes they do double the hp.
I'll be looking to double that again.
But that is a big ugly story....
The standard cengines are very low compressions too, which is good because that means there is plenty of room for improvement.

The head on these things are basically the same as the Honda TRX90 engines and many others for that matter.
It is the small stud pattern engine that comes out in virtually every pit bike under 120cc (some branded as 125's but most only 119cc).
So most of what has been done from the 1960's monkey bikes onwards fits or is adaptable technology.

The barrels are a different, having an external cam chain tensioner.
I have not found a big bore after market replacement for them yet but 54mm is definitely possible and will be available soon.
54mm bore will give 113cc.
A 52.4mm (common size) big pore kit would be very sensible and give 107cc displacement.

The standard barrel can be bored to 50mm without issues and Kazuma Panda 100 pistons and head gaskets should fit.
This option will giv 97cc and if you source a 50mm flat top piston with a 12.5mm gudgeon to deck height you'll have a nice little high comp motor.
With the CDI and exhaust mods 9hp should not be a problem and keep any kid very happy.

There is a larger stroke crank that will go straight in also.
Adam Siemansma from the QuadSquad will be able to help with all of this stuff and he is also a CVT guru.
You'll get higher performance with mode in that area also.

Engine parts are very cheap (like around $50 for a piston assy) and the work is simple.

Happy to answer more specific questions or get in touch with Adam as he can do all the work and set it up for you.

Cobras are the way to go ... yes they are a little expensive, but worth every cent!!!

You kid will move along leaps and bounds (see the "Mikey is Action" thread). The Cobra is race ready, with full Fox shocks and every mod needed.

You can buy a Cobra at $13k and race it that afternoon, or you can buy another kiddies quad, mod it and spend $10k ... and you can only race it after 2 weeks.

I assure you, the Cobra is the only kiddies quad to buy!!

You could also have a Pro-shark that will be competitive with the cobra for less than half the price & spares are readly available here in aus dont believe cobra parts are readily available herew in aus

I am not totally sure ... but I have been doing some surfing, but that is the truth. Spares are sometimes a probelm. There is a dealer in WA who can supply, but I usually bring in my own (here in South Africa) so I think we will do the same, if we are accecpted into Aus ... Wink

But the suppliers from the US are good, and courriers are fast. We try keep quite a lot on hand ... piston kits, stator, motor etc ... but when you do need something right away, it can get frustrating.

I hate to do this ... but to be honest you cant compair the Pro-Shark to a Cobra ... The Cobra is race ready quad ... Pro-Shark (spares aside) needs a lot of work to get it anywhere close to the Cobra.

In this I go as far as to say that the ECX70 (Cobra) will beat and 90/100 CVT out there (stock and in most cases modded too). Now the ECX90 on the other hand ... well that is another story ... Wink

Please dont take this as bashing ... it is really just to "level" the disscussion.

WHATEVER, be aware that there are only a very limited number of Cobras used in any of the state or Australian Championships here in Australia most of the competitors view the cobra as being an unfair advantage in JUNIOR racing but we as a racing community
with a guideline of rules within the MA MOM 2008 accept that they are legal to use in competition here in Australia but the status attached to their use is one of an unfair advantage within a very limited range of affordable options for most Parents paying for their child to race in what is only a very young sporting endevour in Australia I do not wish to dicourage your ideals as to what you will find here in the land of OZ but your son regularely racing against other Cobra mounted competitors is most unlikely.

I understand and agree with you totally. I am in no way coming to Aus with any ideas of grandeur. In fact we have that same discussion here ... however, there is no getting away from the bikes supierority. I would agree that the bike has an unfair advantage when raced against juniors.

However, the quad is one of the safest there is, for the little guys. There is NO quad (big or small) that comes out "stock" as well kitted as the Cobra does (perhaps the new KTMs come close). We have people here that will not race against the Cobra on a 100cc CVT. Understandable ... but their argument comes short when one finds out they have spend more on their 100cc CVT quads that is costs here to buy a new Cobra. They are arguing for arguments' sake ... and these CVT bikes are no where nearly as safe as the Cobra.

I have seen Mikey fluff a step-up, landing with his front wheels straight into the face of the jump, but the bike just soaks it up, and Mikey rides it out.

There are 4 top guys here in the same class (all on EXC70s) and each guy jumped to shifter this year ... all 4 of them are doing so well and their talent has come along fast. The Cobras really prepare the little guys with the geometry and layout of the bike, as it is really just a "little" 450, in most aspects.

I hope nobody is taking this personally ... as I REALLY do not mean it like that. Neither am I trying to be better than anyone else, because they do not have a Cobra, I am just trying to give the quad a fair shout. Without a doubt, it is the best sprint race juniors quad on the market. Wink
