hi looking at getting the 09 model CAN AM 800 max ltd. just wondering if anyone out has one and what do you think of it. had honda 680 wasnt very happy with it. bit under powered and not enough ground clearance also didnt like being loaded up with gear for a couple of days in the bush. this was the reason for looking at the CAN AM (heaps of grunt)

Hey Adam I've got a 08 800 Outty Max XT, if you want grunt go for it. I went riding yesterday and this thing go's anywhere anytime It even went through bog holes that I had previously been stuck in with the Rappy. One concern is that it gets a bit tippy on the off camber My non bias advice would be to test ride as many 4x4s as you can before making your decision Also take into consideration the extras if you choose the LTD. I like you loved the LTD, but when you work it out in the long run you are only missing a gps, different colour & shadowed wheels. But at the end of the day it's your call best of luck and happy trails

HI ROSSCO I HAVE RIDEN THE 800 X2 FROM POLARIS AND I THOUGH IT FELT HEAVY IT DIDNT SEEM TO LIKE TURNING IN AT HIGH SPEED . I WAS ON IT FOR ABOUT 30 MINITES AND IT USED ABOUT A THIRD OF A TANK OF FUEL WITCH I THOUGH WAS A LITTLE THURSTY.FROM WHAT I CAN FIND THE CAN AM WILL GET ABOUT 150KM OUT OF THE SAME AMOUNT OF FUEL. I ALSO THOUGHT WHY NOT GET THE WHOLE PACKAGE WE HAVE A ANNUAL FESTIVAL IN TWO WEEKS WHERE THE LOCAL DEALER WILL DO SPECIAL DEALS FOR AROUND $16000 COMPARED TO THE USUAL $18500 SO I CARNT REALLY HELP MY SELF (THE MISSERS IS NOT THAT IMPRESSED )

Yeah Adam it's a bit of a given that both the Polaris and the Can-Am's chew a bit of fuel. In the words of another Polaris owner that I know, (WELCOME TO THE V8'S OF THE QUAD WORLD) As for the price that's a steal, I'd go for that in a flash. In regards to the high speed turning issue, these thing's are more of a point and shoot machine, and not really built for high speed cornering But then again I think it really depends on each individuals preference

big machines are normally thirsty. You could always fit up an IMS tank when they come available. Waldo got beat by a little 450 sports yamie in a 3hour endro cause the yamaha didn't need fuel and the canam did.... but for grunt can't go past the canam - stick a sports exhaust on em and they wheel stand beautifully. We put one of our exhausts (we make em) on a friends canam and it made such a difference that all his mates with canams were in the next week for their own... Dean left em all for dead

Have you tried the brute force? it's got plenty of go too.

one problem with the canams we have found is that their frames tend to bend behind the steering - so either strengthen it or get to know come one who can straighten it when it does go. We have a steel bench for that.

If you can't guess - I'm not sponsored by canam so I'm able to tell it how it is up here. They are good but like all machines prevention is better than cure.

Either way you can come up for the Kamfari next year bring the missus cause they run a girls class

gday mate ive seen photos on a US forum of a can am that was nearly bent in half after it hit a stump(not that it would do any bike any good) just wondering if the frames bent from jumping or from general fatigue where i will ride has some pretty rough terrain

A weakness in the Can Am is the sst frame which is well noted in the us forums,, another bike to look at is the Arctic cat model is called the thundercat and is 1000 cc mean bike and about 3 grand cheaper then the outy ,

i can only suggest to tide as many as you can ,, and in the end it will either come down to the whole package being one feature like power, or it will be based on the whole lot of features.

I like manual controls for diff lock , can am doesnt have, i like power steering can am not have but can am have got great smooth power , and the oil filters are around 45 bucks ,, just take your time and weigh up all the pro's and con's of all..

I HAD A HONDA (NOT IMPRESSED)WAS LOOKING AT THE YAMIE BUT A TWO SEATER WILL SUIT ME BETTER.DONT KNOW HOW THE CAN AM WILL STAND UP TO MY 110KG ARSE BOUNCING ON IT BUT FROM THE BIKES I HAVE RIDEN IT SEEMS IT WILL SUIT ME BEST

Like I said Grizzly it all comes down to personal preferance. So the Can-Am might have a weaker frame, this I have'nt heard of yet and that would be proberly be on their forum. Also Adam that's a good one for tech help, so if you would like their addy just PM me. At the end of the day, all machines are going to have problems, because there're machines and they break

Thats right Rossco ,, but i know one thing the ride on a outy would be very hard to beat ,, i have ridden one and it was excellent, pity it didnt have power steering though. but they are a good bike , and yes all of them have faults

Your're right on there Grizzly, there's different things that are draw points for different quads. Now the power steering subject is one of the things that seperate the Grizz from all other quads That's something I wish I had on mine

im not a fan of the polaris myself they are comfy to ride but there a bit heavy for my liking i have also had KTM bikes and had a few engine problem one that left me with a 7km bike push back home that arctic cat looks sweet but living in north western australia theres not alot of mud and when there is its gone as fast as it came.the suspension on the can am as impressed me it was so smooth on the rough terrain around here im finding it hard to look at other bikes.comfort, power,two seats and the whinch will come in handy with all the hills ,sand and rocky tracks

Hey Grizzly I placed a post on the other forum, and boy did I get some hits I have to say you were right, the outty's frame have a tendancy to bend This is usually caused by dents in the frame. So it looks like when this thing go's in for it's first service it's on with a bash plate This also might be something for Adam to consider when purchasing his quad I'd be asking for a free bash plate if I were you Adam, and don't fall into the same trap I did

I wouldnt say you fell into a trap ,,it is all information that we wish we had before we buy, dont get me wrong the grizzly has a few flaws as well , i have been doing research on different brands for the last 6 months or so and , when i upgrade it will be another grizzly ,, and not cos i got one now , but purely based on the overall package.

Parts and after sales back up local dealer

accesories

price of quad

as i said the outy has a better ride but there are drawbacks for all quads even the grizzly.

Hell you ought to see the faults with the suzuki king quads and the kwaka brute force 750 , one bloke got rid of his with only 1000 ks on it due to it always breaking down.

thats why i like that other forum it is tried and tested by the yanks who are atv nuts

Yam need to build the 700 wolverine based on the YFM700 and import the rest of the wolverine range. I mean people are buying polaris and Can am so surely the market is there. I guess at this stage they just consider they dont need it, but a Dirt Wheels review last year put the Wolverine 450 (420cc) against the Polaris Sportsman 500cc and said it was the better bike. I guess that is a bit of a no brainer when the Sportsman is nearly decade old design.

Dont mean to steal Grizz's thunder as he's been the arctic cat man but when he started mentioning it.

I had a google and came up with a dealer in Newcastle that was actually a large equipment distributor.

But the Name Arctic Cat Importer of Austrralia made 7 of the top 9 hits they got a number in Kutin-gai in NSW and I havent looked much further for dealer networks.

Will Grizz and Andrew go head to head in a "Bog off" on the grizzleys?

Personally I loved to AC - Ute except for the snorkel thing which I thought could be done better of even just as an add on, but not having seen their full range yet they may well have a std bike of same dimensions and just the snorkel add on for the special beast.

Personally I'd love to see a 70 yard long pit of mud about 750ml - 1 metre deep of loose mud for some mud drags. Or maybe some really thick mud so we get some guys trying to hydroplane across it. Can see some really inventive home made add ons.

But I'll be the first to claim spectator status.

Yhe Dealer in australia is a company called Chain Protection services , they have been selling the Arctic Cat range of snowmobiles for years, some people think thet the brand arctic cat is only new , but that is not the case , hence the reason why they have such large engines.

When i made and enquiriy to purchasing one of these units , they said i could get it serviced at my local bike shop .
