Hi there and welcome to the forum,
You have made a choice as to your atv and nothing wrong with it, if it suits your purpose enjoy it to the max.
I also use a utility quad for all the same reasons as you , and never regret my decision of type.
once again welcome and enjoy _________________ 2012 Can am Outlander Xt 1000cc

congrats on your purchase.
each person has different needs so don't worry about what may suit another. each person has individual perferences just look at this thread http://www.ozatv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6295
If you are new to quadin then I reckon a 300 is a good place to start - no point getting on a 850 twin and wrapping yourself around one of those sneaky trees that jump out at you on occasion before you get to really enjoy yourself.
If you ever do decide to go in a pony express or endro then there may be a 4x4 class or under 500cc class you can enter.
I've been riding for nearly 10 years and perfer around 500cc regardless of style. (scrambler 500cc 4x4, outlaw 525 SA do motoX, outlaw 525 IRS did finke and finished, big boss 6x6 500cc for carting kids and eskies)
The more you ride and the more you read - the more informed your future purchases will be so it's a fun learning curve.
Never lose sight of the purpose you brought it for - work or having fun either way - enjoy _________________ Family is most important.... next is our quads |

No mistake - that quad will get every where you want & you won't see many sports quads carrying fishing gear. _________________ Raptor 700 |

With those cars in the garage no matter the experience or whatever I would have spent more money!!
Just for the mines bigger than your factor!!
Nah the sportsman looks the shizzle and for your stated use trail is definately your best choice.
Maybe you could strip the WRX motor out of the car and whack that in the sportsman!! _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Oh BTW the main thing I'd look at on yoursportsman that may hold back some of its capabilities is the stock tyres suck big time, keep it and unleash some real rubber. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

You won't regret buying that quad mate.
We started with a 250 Suzuki Ozark & when we got hooked we ended up with 3 sports quads.
Only regret I have with the Ozark is selling it.
Wifey said we didn't need more than one each. How wrong she was. _________________ 06 LTZ400

Sweet ride. I'm sure there are a lot of us here who wished we had something as schmick as that for our first quad. I started with a 220cc timberwolf, it wasn't pretty but it was enough to get me hooked on quad riding and haven't looked back since. I'm sure you will be the same. Enjoy

My first quad was the "all mighty 450 Kodiak" what a machine that was, wished I never sold it some days on the trail. _________________ 2005 KFX700

gday Andyn, just reading your post. my thoughts go like this, i dont know anything about the polaris sportman, might b a good bike, might not, i dont know..... u wonder if u made a mistake? sports or utility u ask? well if u do camping & fishing u tend 2 lug a bit of crap around with u so the sports quads dont really offer much in the way of storage or racks unless u go out of your way 2 make modifications yet the utility quads do. i do a bit of hunting every once in a blue moon & my sports quad is no good 4 hunting. U also do mostly trail riding?, many ppl would argue that sports quads being lighter & more nimble r much faster then a utility but then again iv ridden 3 times with a guy who rides a 660 Grizzly (yogie u know who im talking about, 1 of the "wog boys" no 1 take offense 2 the wog reference this is what they call themselves) & this guy rides this grizzly like a race bike, hes as fast as the next bike & stays up with the fastest guys on there, raptors, race 450's, Ds650's & banshee's so i guess it comes down 2 your own abilitys . fun factor? playing in the mud? sure utilitys r as much fun as a sports models arnt they. take your riding style in2 consideration also....i dont think uv made a mistake, some ppl on here probably wouldnt go near a utility, mind u some wouldnt go near a sports.....personal preference i reckon or if u have the chance 1 day 2 ride a sports model, try it out then u can then compare it 2 your own bike....any1 agree or disagree with me?...hope this helps andyn _________________ 04 TRX 450r

Given the choice JB I'd love to ride everything once and maybe even twice.
My own usage of a quad os going to be similar to Aydens so I'm definately thinking utility, but to make that more sporty I was hoping to go renegade, but what a cost??
Im sure I'd forget it in the first two minutes as my teeth act like a grill for insects as you cant wipe the smile off my face
In fact Ive even got the good ladies support, given the cash, she wants something to cater for all of us.
Theres 3 of us, son and 16 months, so given that I'd like to take him on some gente trails of no risk or just a ride up the road I wouldnt mind having a Razr and then a quad to get the 3 of us going and maybe of for a ride to a camp spot and back over a night.
What about that for a combo?
Then you gotta trailer it there and I actually have a concept for a trailer to move those on a camper trailer format. I two years the boy will have a full motorised quad, wher to then?
God grant me tattslotto!! _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs
