hey there fellas

im up in townsville, north queensland, which is approximately 2000km from stockton/newcastle

im trying to figure out how much it would cost me and my mates to get ourselves and about 6 quads down to stockton for easter next year

i figure if it isnt ridiculously expensive it would be well worth it!

so, how would you do it?

a) freight the quads, fly down and hire cars/trailers

b) hire a mini bus or similar and tow a huge ass trailer down and back again

c) ideas?

who could we use for freight etc if we went that route?

also do alot of people camp at stockton for easter? where could i find out about hiring a motorhome or caravans etc for the weekend?

any ideas and advice greatly appreciated!

thanks, mark

i used expresslink to ship a quad from perth to sydney and it cost me $340
as far as motorhomes ..you wouldnt be able to tow them out onto the sand where they have designated camping areas nost people pitch tents
and tarps
there is usually heaps of campers and riders for easter as the drags will be on too
i could help you out with gas bottles cookers water canisters ect..
as i will be there
maybe we could organise with some of the local riders to have the quads shppied to their properties and we could transport them in a couple of tralers to the dunes
ill help you out as much as i can
cheers

wow thanks for the offers mate you certainly are generous!

that expresslink doesnt sound too bad, could probably organise a deal for 6 quads return trip! ill have to suss it out

then i suppose we could fly in and hire 4wds once in newcastle.

it certainly seems doable, do you think it would be worth our while?

If you're going to freight the quads i'm good for storage at my workshop.
Fully alarmed & open from 6 - 6.
Drop me a pm if you need anything else.
My suggestion would be - fly into Newcastle, get a lift to Lavis ( a whole 10 minutes from the air port), send your camping gear with the quads & just camp on the beach. I'm sure there's enough of us here that could get your bikes to the carpark at Lavis & toss your camping gear in a 4wd to take it onto the beach.

You may have to send your Bikes details (engine number + vin number + engine size ) and some cash to someone in advance so they can rego them for you. RTA will more than likely be shut over Easter. And the sand rangers wont let you in without rego. Rolls eyes

Easter this year will be big ,you are best to drive and camp or carvan,if you want to see nelson bay ,newcastle ,sydney ect ..you will be able to leave your bikes with someone,if you where on your own you could stay with me unless you wanted to sleep on the floor.
A lot of times trucks come down the coast empty then load up in sydney with a full load the trick is to find one ..place signs up or adds .

once again thanks for the offers guys!

i hadnt even thought of the rego, how much is it? (not that it matters...)

yeah it wont happen this year, but definitely want to try and get down there next year.

i reckon hiring a 9 tonne pantec would be the go, could fit all the quads/gear/spares/camping gear etc in no worries, and just take turns driving it with another car for the rest of the guys.
