Ive been reading a bit about crank failures on yfz's on the yfzcentral forum and was just wondering if anyone on here has had a problem with theirs.I have an 06 and am considering doing the oil mod that they talk of that is meant to prevent it from happening, but im not sure if it would be necessary.
Anybody know anything about this??
Thanks

The oil mod is more for lubricating the gudgeon pin which had a habit of seizing or snapping in the earlier models. Its still a good idea though.

The oil mod wont prevent a crank "failure" It only helps in getting oil in the pin galleries and small end of the rod. It is still an excelent idea though. I prefer the 07 oil squirter/pump upgrade over the oil mod these days.

There were some intances recorded on 04 model bikes where rod bearing like was shorter than it should have been, and some were lucky enough to have it covered under warranty. Other instances on later model bikes are more to do with how the bikes have been looked after.

Lets not forget that these are high performance motors that need regular maintainence, this includes replacing parts and if they dont get it then things will go wrong.

yes the 07 squirter and pump upgrade was the one i was thinking of.there is an upgrade on ebay only you have to send them your side case to be modified.do you know if you can just fit the side case straight off the 07 instead?? a new side case might be a bit costly though im thinking.

Yes, you can use an OEM 07 sidecase.
