Hi there, I currently ride an 08 limited edition yfz450.It has a k+n filter , GYTR full pipe.I have had the head ported, high comp piston (12.5:1) Dynateck cdi and yz hotcams. It is puttin out 53hp which is good but would like just a little more. I was thinking about a stroker crank. Does anyone know if this is the best way to go or is there something else i should look into 1st.
ANY INFO WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Im no Expert but once u start messing with stuff like stroking it i read that the bike becomes UNreliable more chance of letting u down just my 2cents worth

you have a better air filter and pipe on it yet ?

you could try Adam from the quadsquad or Pete from southern quads

i know Adams yfz puts in pretty well

I had a 502cc falicon stroker that was a absolute weapon. Down low was the biggest improvement that I found and made around 55hp but that was on a dyno that said it made 39hp standard. Don't read to much into the numbers but more so in the percentage gains as you make changes. With the expense of the parts plus the build costs I don't think it's a very good trail bike but for the race track it was well worth it. Rekluse clutch with no over ride it would still hole shot on a mx track.

The YFZ engine is in my opinion not the bike you want to push to far. The barrel when torqued correctly pulls out of round and they tend to get alot of blow by in a short period of time. This is more so when they are bored larger. LRD in the states tensions the barrel down first then bores them to combat this problem or Nmotion makes a whole new barrel with thicker walls and more bracing to also help.

Do your research on what you are after and don't be scared to ask lots of questions. yfzcentral.com is a good site as many of these guys have stroker kits and have used them for a number of years now.

So if you want to race and are not worried about the expense to keep that sort of package maintained I would say go for it the bike will make you sh!t your pants but for a trail riding bike keep it close to standard and enjoy just riding your bike. Hope this helps

Hudson is giving good advice there

if ya wanting to race i dont know how many times Adam and smitty and others have reminded me to look at suspension and other stuff instead of motor enhancements as you can have all the power in the world but no use if ya cant get it to the ground

but depending what ya doin with quad as Hudson said to what options you have

hotcams make a 3mm mini stroker and apparently you dont need to change anything in the top end,it just comes down lower. Does that sound right?

Agree with OZ450 & Hudson.
53hp is enough to win races and you are probably better off keeping engine reliability and looking at where else you can make gains on the track.
Adam gives some good advice on NOT how big the peak horse power number is, but how fat is it everywhere else in the rev range, and can you get it to the ground.

For a very simple example (If you are really really serious)... brand new rear tyres for every race meet will probably give you more bang for your buck than a $3,000 engine rebuild for the season.

Zak can give you advice on what you need and where to go with it... Zak builds very fast 450's and I have seen them....

My 2001 660 is now making 65HP and tonnes of torque....

Tyres/gearing and suspension are the first place I would start, no use having power if it just spins it's tits off.
