G'Day Terry
I've raced MX, DT etc. on YFZ450s, LT-R450s, and Raptor 660s and ridden most the sport quads on the market including the Predator.
When comparing to other sport quads on the market. In my opinion the pros and cons on this machine are as follows:
Pros: good quality components, strong frame, already wide enough for competition from the factory, some of them come with good quality shocks, exelent thumb throttle, pretty reliable, fairly powerful, and usually cheap second hand.
Cons: Heavy, seat is it a bit uncomfortable up the front, a little bit underpowered for the weight, notchy gearbox, suspension a little too soft for MX, did I say heavy? and IMO they've all been belted senseless with the fugly stick.
If you do a lot of trail riding and a little bit of racing, exelent machine and you should be happy with it. If you are heavily into racing then I would look at the jap quads or build a kick ar$e motor and stick mainly to natural terrain type racing as it is a little outclassed on MX tracks.

I agree with Ozquad.
A friend of mine had a Pred for years and it was a good thing. It was however a little unreliable having a few funny problems like the stator housing/flywheel locator key breaking and boom! and the throttle assembly on the carb rusted and seized. (this may have just been bad luck?) But in saying all of that it was fairly quick and had good shocks as standard and was far cheaper (second hand) than the Jap quads.
Cheers. _________________ 2012 Polaris RZR XP Turbo

A Pred could handle the finke no worries, the question is could you.
I know I was having second thoughts about sixty klms into the bloody whoop fest that shadows the old rail line on day one..... all I know is that I was one happy sucker when I crossed the finish line on the last day. _________________ State governments give us REC rego + area to ride ATVs legaly!
