I'm not sure weather any of you guy's hung around till the end of the Stockton Beach Clean Up Day the other day but the message was pretty clear of what the National Parks and Wildlife intend on doing at Stockton. After already having a run in with one of the Rangers who was hell bent on flexing his National Park muscle on me regarding the displaying of my number plate. (when my Son and I were there to lend them a hand)
I tried to explain to him that for the past 10 years I have been pulled up by the Police & the Port Stephens Council Rangers and they both said that they were not interested in the number plates, and that they wanted to see the rego label and beach permit because anyone can put an old plate on, and who's going to see it out in the sand anyhow? He said "well I write the rules around here now!"
The wash up was that I said yes Sir I will get my plate on, but if you saw the National Parks website it said they were not worrying about beach rego for the day anyhow.
The guy on the microphone stated that we will not have Hoons "RIDING" around the area!
What about the 4WD's? There are more of them "DRIVING" like Hoons around the area causing more damage and are way more dangerous.
If they want to do something constructive, why don't they fix the road in, or what about some Toilet facilities?
Expect us to act like people, but make us "profanity removed" in the bush like animals.
Where does our Rego and Beach permit money go?
The End is near!

It certainly does not sound great for us quad riders. Wonder what are our options after we have been shut out.

ride even more illegally, unfortunatly stockton will become just like every other NPWS controlled area, unless your fully road regoed and the gates are open, its a no-go.

i dont think much will change in the scheme of things though, they make it so hard to conditionally register a bie now not many people bother anyway, so i think pehaps just the fines will go up and they will have "super power rangers" out to catch us

my 2c worth.... the reason NPWS are up in arms about quads at stockton is i believe the stupidity of the riders that go there, 80km/h plus down the beach .. roosting the fishermen and kids all over the shop then to make matters worse the "drags" didnt help either. if we want the govt departments to take us seriously we need ZERO INCIDENTS and no injuries for an extended period of time, a sober voice to speak with and a plan to which we all must adhere to. ie the RVA at stockton does not extend to the areas where most quaders ride, the drags whilst fun are ILLEAGLE and dont serve to help us gain the support of the authorities.
say goodbye to stockton guys we blew it for ourselves and get out and support the recently opened parks... at least this way the money doesnt go to the govt and there are no speed limits

I agree with you completely Matt, Some of us have been riding up at Stockton for over 20 years and it only seems like the last 2 years we have had an influx of idiots who have spoiled it for everybody. And it also is a bit of a joke that we have MODERATORS on this forums suggesting to carry on like lunatics and turning this serious issue into a bloody joke.
Don't get me wrong, I like Racing as much as the next bloke but lets stay away from the fisho's and the Families, there is plenty of room up there. Move up the Beach a bit where there are no people and go for it, out of sight = out of mind.
We'd better wake up to ourselves and see what we can do to salvage what we have left.

Dont forget fellas that quads have been ridding stockton long before the word "politicly correct" was even a term. This is a well ocerstrated plan by the Nat parks that we all know is comming. I was there to give them a go at the weekend in the faint hope that they might give us a go and I didnt expect to be called a hoon for my efforts. The only hoons I saw this week end was out of control 4WDs with kids hanging on the back of flat tray like mad max 2

i agree wit you sean
now i seen things down there on saturday that made my skin crawl.
firstly there was that (really nice person) at the waterhole towing two small kids behind his 4x4 , mind you this dim wit was driving in the water. the kids were towed behind on a small lenght of rope whilst sitting on toboggans. ( how irresponsible is that ) secondly when i was parked at the top of PAGES i saw 4x4 just playing follow the leader (the blind leading the blind ) when our group were back at camp and while we were having lattee,s and the occasional beer ,, the stream of 4x4,s that were heading towards the beach was mind blowing and yes as sean said some of these charecters had small kids standing on the back tray
all- in -all i,d say that the npwl was just being picky , and that ranger would of sounded great on tape trying to defend his job in court , their is a difference between doing your job and being abusive . lastly the poor old fisherman he would not of stood a chance there on saturday. the wind was,nt in his favour the tide was wrong and it was too hot not to mention that he was totally out numbered.
and that was my 50c worth

im not saying the 4WD fraternity is not just as if not more fool hardy than us quaders, but and its a big but the 4wds are registered un conditionally the fisho's that fish the beach there proberly use 4WD's to get on the beach not quads and we all know the recreational fisho has a bigger voice than the recreational quader due to almost every australian man woman and child at least fishing once in their life time and most more than once. what i am saying we are our own worst enemy when it comes to representing ourselves by reputation. time to either lobby properly the NPWS and stick to the rules or say goodby to the dunes as a legal riding spot. ... which will see a lot of local industry suffer due to the actions of a few.

Sinse the early 80s I have watched and experienced free riding areas slowly but shurely get closed down because of only a few clowns that can't seem to stay out of sight out of mind the unfortunate spin off is that when we want to make a legal, safe and private area to ride we have to jump through hoops to still deal with these government departments.Unfortunately a very small minority "profanity removed"for the rest of us that just want to enjoy our chosen sport .

how can you blame the drags etc?? i consider the problem being the lack of legal avenues for riders to take to enjoy there sport, in my opinion the drags were probably one of the more safer/legal events there, out of sight/earshot, away from the beach, fully marked track.

these events should be supported by the NPWS etc in the hope it will promote safer riding as a whole and allow an outlet for people to tear it up on the dune in a controlled manner.

I think its weak to just sit in front of a computer and finger point.

I don't think anyone is pointing the finger, but you would have to agree that they are trying to get rid of the quaders at the beach.

We were asked to hold drag events, and we did the ground work.

And the person that asked us to do this...didn't show... twice Sad

This say's to me that he wasn't serious enough, to hold these events at a
legal, regulated and insured park.

This is why we have put in the effort to get the only approved and insured
park up and running.

Because this is what you guys are asking for. Very Happy Very Happy

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............There wasnt much LEGAL about the drags, esp seeing we exceeded the speed limit within a stones throw of the start line,in an area that we should not have been in.
When there is a chance to compete LEGALLY,where is everyone? Confused Confused Hrm

me a weak finger pointer ...mmm i dont think so, on many occasions i have told people both on here and in person where the problems in our sport lie and more times than not i have been given the impression that people just dont give a sh##. Now with stockton on the endangered list and the rest of the state off limits to unrego vehicles its time those who ride stocko got their collective sh## together and lobbied the NPWS and their local member to keep stocko open, 4WD ers have clubs and heaps of them, they even have their own political party a decent lobby group and lots of income, we got a few blokes and girls on quads racing on the sand roostin the fishos and all else who stand in the way, no political allegiance, no cash, no industry backing.
tell me who would you be betting will win the stockton beach war of 2007 ... quaders or 4wders??

Used to love the dunes, Now NEPEAN RACEWAY you can ride there once a month, NO RACING, just have fun flatout on your quad. Singleton twice a month MX and flatrack , again its only a practise track, NO RACING. Heaps of Supermoto practise days, next 3 weeks you can ride flatrack at Kempsey on the weekends, Various MX tracks you can ride at on practise days. BARLEIGH RANCH now is open every weekend $35.00 for the day, need min 5 quads though. I COULD ride every weekend doing some sort of discipline and enjoy it SH**TLOADS more than cruising the DUNES. Theres more to life than SAND eek

I still enjoy the odd DUNE ride, but find ourselves making a circuit and racing each other as fast as we can, so the day ended up with us racing each other again......I guess the ADRENALINE rush just gets to us laughing

-Stick to the RULES(rego, number plates, blinkers, speed limits, riding areas etc, etc, etc) & there SHOULD be no problem OR join/form a lobby group & change the ruleS. Cool
