Had a good 220 K ride over 2 days last weekend on cattle station roads. 7 quads. Some 2nd & 3rd gear rocky creek crossings. Out of the group we got 3 punctures & 3 bent rims. Most of us run 4.5 to 6 psi. What sort of preasures would you guys recomend. I've heard some pro riders run up to 12 in rough country.

For a start id be running 6 ply tyres front and rear ......

Then id try 7psi in the front and 5-6 psi in the rear for the rough stuff, soft and mushy or muddy u could go down to 3- 4 in the rear
Depends on the tyre type also. Radials can run softer than "square" sided tyres.

Another idea i do to stop the punctures from rocks etc ....i regulary silicone (Tyre shine) the inside and outside "sides" of each tyre , then when i run over a rock or tree stumphits the side of the tyre ...it slides off as apposed to grabbing and ripping. keeps the tyre in good "plyable" condition.

We ride here on 6-ply with 3-5 PSI all round ...

The harder the tyre, the more "bounce" you will get, and less grip. Also, the harder, the more likely you are to tear the tyre ...

I agree but not in the front ...if u have the fronts harder then they will track much better instead of rolling over ..... the shocks stop the front tyres from giving too much bounce........

mmmm ... yes ... but no (IMO) The more "work" you give the shocks to do ... there less they have for you when you need them ... If you understand where I am going ...

Just think that I would rather take 60% in the tyre and 40% in the shock, leaving 60% in the shock for trees, rocks, neighbours ( Wink ) and the rest ... If you get what I am saying ... ?

But I think we are both right (does that also make us both wrong Hrm ). Guess it is all down to personal preference!! Razz
