Hey guys,
I'm also fairly new to Tassie (moved here this year) and only just last week bought a Polaris.
Regarding rego - can anyone outline the differences between restricted VS. agricultural rego in terms of where the ATV can be ridden (i.e on public roads)?
I live on small acreage at Mathinna, and it'd be handy to be able to (legally) use public roads to get to certain tracks.
I'm guessing that public road access would be very limited with agri rego, but I do see a lot of ATVs mustering and the like on public roads.
3rd party for recreational is approx. $170 pa, which is a bit rich IMO...
Cheers All :) |

hey jesco your lucky we were ridin out of mathinna a few weeks ago and it was wicked. As far as rego from what i know ag rego allows you to ride on any public roads within 25 k's of your home block where as rec rego covers your ass wehn riddin on crown land. the fuzz are pretty cool about it here you really want to make sure u get some sort of rego at least then you've got some sort of cover if you get hurt _________________ Theres a devil in me and he wants beer |

G'day Maddo,
Thanks for the reply and advice. Yeah, I'll will register it, once I know which one is best for me.
Both regos would be equally handy by the sounds of it - I'll make some phone calls today and see what else I can find out.
Maybe I can get both regos with insurance for a smaller overall price (pigs might fly too!).
It was very quiet here this weekend , I seemed to be the only one out and about on a bike or quad - at least in and around town anyway. Usually there are a few groups roaring through town :) |

Just a quick update I meant to add a few days ago:
I rang up and apparently you can indeed get a combined licence - however...
They need to determine whether you really need public road access in order to access your own property (or parts thereof). The fee is whichever licence is more expensive (which is the rec licence).
I'm not sure if I will bother with combined because I can't see them approving me for an ag licence - I only have a few acres and don't *really* need public road access, apart from the rear paddock which is cut off by a large creek. You need to supply maps and stuff to make your case as well...
Cheers everyone :) |
