Not strictly a atv question but in my quest to learn more I thought I would ask you guys. the farming company I work for supplies everone with a suzuki mudbug 2 wheeler http://www.suzuki.co.nz/Motorcycle/Farm/TF125K5+Mud+Bug/ They buy 3 new ones each year and the 3 worst ones get scrapped or used for parts. The overseer has challenged me to use a couple of wrecks to build a couple of things The first project is to take an old kdx85 and put a mudbug motor in it the frame is all fitted up with a few finnishing welds to do. But the expansion chamber that runs under the fuel tank is about 1/2 inch too high What effect would it have to "shrink" this. The next project (details later ) will need this same piece of exhaust shortened by about 2 inches again what effect would this have These motors are not high performance and have no powerband but are reliable and easy to maintain I would appreciate any thoughts

Shortening the pipe will increase top end power and lose torque. The half inch mod probably won't have much effect overall.

the best thing to do would be to actually keep the length and just change the shape. If you cut a piece out of the pipe that is a wedge shape and then put that wedge back in on the other side of where you cut it out, you will keep the same length but make it turn more. This is how hand made chambers are done.

I think you will need to rejet the carb if you modify your exhaust.
