hi guys my mate has a 04 yfz450 it was running fine till we put a hmf slip on on it an put the jet kit in it that came with the pipe. Now it has an irregular miss in it so he sent it in an got it serviced an the valves set an told them to sort it out but they said cause 2 exhaust valves were tight when they did them they didn't do any thing else to it an said it ran fine round there yard but as soon as he started it at home it ran the same does anyone have any suggestions to what it could be.The hymes manual is on it's way now any help suggestions would be great cheers

have you a friend with yfz? try swapping the coil and cdi 1 at a time and see if this helps. people will need to know if the bike is all stock + slip on or if you have done the cam mod etc, and no.s of jets ie pilot 42, needle ncvq 3rd clip, main 182 etc

bike is all stock apart from the slip on an jets i'm not sure on what jets are in it at the moment as he has swapped them with other ones in the kit but the bike still has the same miss and we don't have another coil or cdi to swap with

on older YFZ's it isnot uncommon for the coil/cap to cause a missfire, unfortunately the only real way to prove it is to fit another. Something else to look for is to check all the connectors, coil, CDI etc to make sure that they are clean and making good contact as that to can cause a miss.

if its a real sharp miss its electrical if its a more of blunt studder its fuel most of the pipes u buy with a jet kit are usually way out anyway as they come from the u.s most of the jetting is to suit 4-5+ thousand feet above sea level so get it on the dyno or borrow a a/f meter

that is a good point, fuel misses are generally not intermittent though.

It would help if we knew what jets were put in it though.
