One of the boys from work organized a bit of a trip down the western coast of the Cape york Peninsular , after a bit of begging with the boss we managed to get a few days off work, and also managed to get one of the supers at work to lend us the brand new Barge (which hadnt even been used for work purposes yet) and drive us across the river to get to our set off point.

We had a fair bit of a mix of quads, had my grizzly, a king quad, a polaris, a old and very well used Honda from one of the local stations and a unknown brand of quad... seriously, no one knew what brand it was.. no markings on it anywhere lol..

The drive down the coast is pretty easy really, but the tides played a bit of havoc and we had to head inland a few times and up over the cliffs as we couldnt get around the rocks below. We rode around 80km down the coast to a river called Norman River.. bloody top spot and really only accessible by either boat or quad.. (or foot if u were that stupid).

heres a map of roughy where we went.. its basically from the very top of the page to the bottom left hand side of the page.

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&ll=-12.884102,141.865768&spn=0.334679,0.617294&vpsrc=6&t=h&z=11

I'll let the pics do the talking

Awesome great pics
My mates and I use to do similar trips but only for the day strap the esky on and fishing rods and off we would go.
Miss it so much that am looking at getting back into it.

How did the Kingquad go?

Top stuff Cranky. I'd rather be up there riding quads and dealing with saltwater crocodiles than talking about legal quad riding to the George St variety of crocks down here!
BTW, that unknown bike, it's a CF Moto.

Hey Cranky love your pics looks like you all had a ball of a time. I'd love to do the same type of ride around the top of QLD but how and where do you even start in planning a trip like this?. Any help or pointers would be great Thanks

Hi Guttruck,

Mate I have the full ricochet skids including floor boards on my Grizzly 700.

I think they are the best after market product that I have fitted to my bike. The quality and fit is AWESOME. I cannot fault them and they have paid for themselves many times over. They are also dead easy to fit and I am no handy man by any stretch of the imagination.

When I buy another bike in the future this will be the first after market accessory that will go on the bike.

The advantage is the confidence you get knowing that the complete underside of your bike is protected.

Price wise they were not cheap keeping in mind that I had to have mine shipped to me here in Tassie. I bought mine from Graham from www.atvoffroad.com.au in QLD. Graham is a legend and knows what customer service is all about.

Mate hope that helps if you are thinking about getting a set.

Cheers

Thanks for the info

Am going to get a set for sure just wanted to make sure they where top quality as have not seen any in person.

Just have to look into front protection now as the radiator on the kingquad seams not to well protected.

Cheers
