the laws havent changed, and to try and answer your question ? any vechilce that is not registered, car, bike, quad is not alowed to to drived on any gazzetted road in Victoria, but when it comes to quads and the bush well they have to find you first eek

and FYI, DSE has no powers to pull any vechilce over, only the police has that power.

I got a pic of two quads driven in Melbourne on the road by two police. And there registed. Plates are, oru2 and oru3. Does that mean we can register our quads to ride in Melbourne?

If its anything like WA they will be special purpose rego...

We even had a couple of our drill rigs registered under this scheme to cross roads.

I was at the stock exchange yesterday and saw a Polaris Ranger driving up Collins St. I was about to take a pic but then the red and blue lights started up and they pulled up a car right in front of me. 2 cops jumped out and they were waring helmets; funny because I've seen police on quads without helmets.

Time to get back to Vic Roads seeing the Danger issue is now out of picture. It obviously must because the Police union couldn't let their members lives be put in jeopardy could they? No one notice if there were twin S&W's mounted to the front or anything that provided the level of safety Vic Roads were seeking? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Isn't that the semi' auto pistol the changed too? Not 100% sure. Then they'd be safe!! Laughing

Must be a car too because one of the cops isn't wearing a bike jacket that'd be against regulation let alone sending the wrong message to the kids!!

Also id the photo any good to us where we cant download it and share it with everyone? Can we have a copy on screen to snarfle? Thanks.

any goverment department or contractor to any such department can register a quad as they have special circumstances, like local councils or someone that is contracting to a local council or shire

this might be so but Vicroads has been so adament that these are "unstable at speed" and to dangerous, so why is okay for our best to ride machines that are unstable at speed ??? double bloody standards, I feel a letter comming thier way soon... Mad

I thought those special circumstances are written out though, and its just an impression I got from other conversations, but I thought contractors could only get them for limited road ugase to get from one job to another ie. crossing the road only and the same with farmers and other special purpose regs.

Same thing for ag equipment drive it to where you are doing your job not for the specific purpose of using on bitumen roads like the ranger and since they have roll cages are they farm machinery or a car or a ATV?

Regardless of those impressions right or wrong, I think these registrations open a LOT more doors than we had. I don't believe Polaris would have charged them much if anything to have these products and they wouldn't do it without the purpose of "softening" the laws or the way they are applied. I think Yogie will jump on them. Evil or Very Mad

What was the details behind their reason for using them Barney and where will they be using them?. Their tyres are pretty worn on the PICS so I warrant they have seen a lot of bitumen time. Wink

They were Polaris Sportsmans I think and were being used in Melbourne; mainly in and around the CBD.

I wonder what type of rego they use. The cops aren't disabled, or council gardeners so what are the quads registered as?
