Interesting.
I went for another run in ride this morning and headed out of my boring, mundane almond orchard ( read flat and smooth), to next doors spud farm. Just cruising along, ho hum, and then I come across deep, nasty ruts. You know, the type that a 4x4 made when it was muddy, all criss crossed and deep, that had now set like concrete. The type that you brace yourself for because you know they could rip the bars from your hands, even with a good steering damper, and send the back end around to meet the front. Ok, just drop a gear, lean back and hang on, right. This is the strange part. There was nothing. No kicking, bucking, fighting, nothing. Almost boring.
Hmmm? lets try that again shall we. Top gear this time and again, nothing. So I start aiming at the worst of it to see what happens. Nothing. Again almost boring. Again and again I went through picking fast, flowing lines through sweeping corners. It seemed wrong going into crap like that at that kind of speed. All my years of riding instinct telling me " What the hell you think your doing?" and yet this thing just sucked it up and let me simply get on with going where I wanted.
Kind of takes the fun out of hanging on for dear life, because you don't have to.
Like I said, interesting.

I havent given it the full beans yet but it seems stronger everywhere and also smoother at the same time. The power is very broad so it don't seem to matter if you are in the wrong gear as much. The standard muffler looks very restricted and almost agricultural so it will be interesting to see what an open can would do for more power.

I know when i had a 520 in a banshee frame that it was easier to ride than the 450r i had. The motor would just pull even when you came into a corner in the wrong gear, you just opened the throttle on the way out and it just would pull away. I had that motor in a sidecar for a while then back in the solo then into the banshee frame. I sold the bike after 4 years and only did nomal mainternance on it and didnt miss a beat.

The shocks seem to work pretty good. I havent launched it over a jump yet, well, nothing big any way. They have a single pre load adjustment nut with no way to lock it. Again, havent ridden enough to see if they unwind them selves but I think simply ordering another set of pre load nuts and using two in each coner would be a way to fix it if there was a problem.

Hey Gary, what's crackin?
I heard of a few side car guys using the same donk for a number of years with no reliability issues at all. But dammn, is it smooth! It almost feels like an electric motor.

"profanity removed" Maggots, this thing sounds awsome. It's almost enough for a trail rider like myself to consider coming over to the dark side. If you do end up convincing me to get one, you do know I will tell my wife it was your fault!

Wait till KTM release theres. I read in one of the ATV mags that they are releasing the 525 first in early summer (USA) then the 450 early next year.

Went for another ride this arvo. First I wound back the springs a little to get her a little lower to the ground and man, what a difference! This thing is crazy! It has got a HEAP more revs than I thought. Held it pinned in top for a while, waiting for a rev limiter, and it just kept reving and reving and reving. I almost felt naughty...... I ran out of track, but I didn't find the rev limiter. Then I looked at this pile of dirt the farmers next door had dumped with the excavator when they cleared out their dam. I have ridden past for two years and never given it a second thought, just too gnarly, until this arvo. Man, this thing can climb anything. It don't get stuck. Probly because the wheels are driving more often. Man, I had so much fun this arvo. Can't wait to go for a decent ride with the club.

Sorry Mick, I forgot to say how charming you look in your new photo. Was that done at studio 2000?

Thanks a lot. I haven't been called human in years. I have been called lots and lots of other things, but not human. Makes me feel like there's hope for me yet. Cheers!

At that speed there is only one place I am looking, and it aint no instruments or warning lights.

I seem to be getting use to this quad quicker than any other so I guess it is inspiring some form of confidence. I still havent finished the first tank of fuel yet but man, I am starting to have some fun. And the thing is it's all stock. So yeah, I am pretty happy so far.

Sorry mate, I miss read your quote. The correct answer would be: " I would like to run it at Finke this year, but I still don't know for sure."

I though you asked if I was running Finke. Sorry, should take the time to read things properly.

Hey Mick, feel free to tell your wife that every thing you do that makes you feel good, or evil, is my fault. I am more than happy to take the rap.
