|
hey everyone i am chasing some rather technical info, i am wondering if anyone knows the gap between tip of a fully inserted spark plug and the top of a standard piston (at top dead center) on an 09 ltr450? that is the clearance between the two in a running engine.
thanks in advance
Neil
p.s i know it's only in mm's _________________ The main thing is to have fun I just think second place is no fun

i am looking at putting a different spark plug in that has i greater protrusion into the cylinder space than a standard one (2 to 3mm) _________________ The main thing is to have fun I just think second place is no fun

screw the new plug in all the way by hand.
then back it out 3 turns, and turn it over. pull the plug and check for damage.
if fine repeat process with 2 turns etc etc.
or put it at TDC and measure the distance from the seat of the plug to the piston. then compare to the new plug.
Why do you want a longer plug?
increase compression? if so dont bother. |

have just finished installing new plug into bike i measured the distance with a special ruler (steel rod) and there is about 5mm clearance past end of original plug.
And no i am not putting a longer plug in to increase compression i am putting a better plug in to give it more bang.
Better plug firing at a higher voltage, increase fuel and air input and you get better bang. _________________ The main thing is to have fun I just think second place is no fun
